Emptiness

Dreams and wishes.
How long can they sustain me?
Beautiful words, fantasies…
Are spread too thin.
I’ve outgrown my imaginings,
And reached my breaking point.

They shatter, and tumble around me.
Shards of broken dreams
Cut into my heart,
And I bleed it out
With endless tears;
I fear the emptiness they leave.

Yet that was all I had.
That was what the words were:
They were empty.
My dreams were empty.
My fantasies were empty.
I had nothing even when I thought I did.

Illusions, and that was all.
Dreams filled with fear
Disguised by longing.
A man in the desert believes
That mirages of water will sustain him.
But all he has is emptiness…

All I have is emptiness.
Empty words that I shape my life around.
Empty fantasies that I filled my heart with.
Empty eyes that I looked upon a dark world with.
And empty dreams that shattered
From the weakness of my empty heart.

But one dream remained.
One dream that was not so empty.
One fantasy that was not of my own empty heart.
One dream that held a dose of reality,
A shadow of possibility,
And love not merely of my own creation.

And that dream was not empty.
For I filled that dream with you.
