New Life

One hand placed firmly on the protruding belly,
the skin, a twitch, a bounce, fingers
expectant for the
touch, a new experience.
The body inside a body
kicks, impatient; it will
find a way out, the
escape hatch.
The palm of the hand feels the
ever so slight disturbance,
and there is an expression of
glee, exaltation, happiness, that
there is a
healthy new life,
safely hidden behind the
curtains of clothes and skin
waiting for the cue line to make its
debut performance.
